BOWIE CROSS COUNTRY

Monday - Thursday @ 6:15-7:15am / Friday @ TBD

Meets: All meets this year are scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays. (See the schedule). Cross Country is a sport in which the athlete runs a marked course. (2 miles for all JH/HS girls and 3 miles for HS boys) in a park, golf course, pasture, or on school property. There are two divisions in a JH meet: Boys and Girls. Sometimes the 7th and 8th grade run together and other times separate. Awards (medals) are usually given to the top 10-20 individual finishers in each division. Team awards are also given to the team in each division that has the lowest combined score of the top five individual finishers in a division. For example, if Bowie’s top five boys’ finishers came across the finish line 1st, 4th, 5th, 12th and 18th, our team would have 40 points. If our team total was the lowest of all the schools competing in that division, we would be the division champions. Competing in Cross Country is self-disciplined, which is beneficial in all aspects of life and other sports competitions.

Workouts: Boys and girls will train together. The Cross Country team will workout Monday-Thursday in the morning from 6:15-7:15 AM. Friday we will have workouts (TBD).

*If an athlete is involved in another sport that will conflict with practice or meet times, we will arrange something with that individual athlete. All athletes are expected to attend all workouts unless there are other school related conflicts.

(5) unexcused absences from workouts will result in dismissal from the Cross Country team.) An unexcused workout is when you do not show up to workout at the designated time, and you do not text/call the coach and let him know you will not be there. All practices will be on the HS campus. Parent drop off for workouts will be at the HS track.

In case of rain, we will practice in the gym.

**Please be on time to pick up your child after meets. We are required to stay until all students are picked up, unless another school employee is present. This is for your child’s safety. Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up on days that we have meets.**

Please make sure that all required paperwork (physicals) are completed so your child can begin workouts from day 1.
