As you begin your Back-to-School shopping, we want to make sure you're informed and prepared for a great start to the year!
📏 What's New?
This year, we’re simplifying skirt and short length expectations using a standard 3x5 index card. The top of the card will be placed at the top of the knee, and garments must extend to the top of the card (approx. 5 inches above the knee).
👕 There are minimal changes to the dress code otherwise, and the full details will be included in the campus-specific handbook addendums to be approved at the July 21, 2025, School Board Meeting. The Bowie ISD Board of Trustees wanted to share some exciting news with you regarding the leadership of our district. At the called meeting on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the Bowie ISD Board of Trustees voted to name Donna L. Hale, Ed.D., as the lone finalist for the superintendent position.
Dr. Hale currently serves as the assistant superintendent at Perryton ISD and has previously held the position of superintendent at Miami ISD in Texas. With over 27 years of experience in education, Dr. Hale has excelled in various roles, including teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. Her extensive experience and dedication to the field make her an exceptional choice for our district.
As per Texas regulations, when a school board names a lone finalist for the superintendent position, a mandatory 21-day waiting period must pass before the board can officially hire the individual.
We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Hale to Bowie ISD and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our community.

A new state law will impact student cell phone use starting in the 2025–2026 school year.
📜 Texas House Bill 1481, signed by Governor Greg Abbott on June 20, 2025, includes the following key requirements:
⭐ Students may not use cell phones inside school buildings during instructional hours.
⭐ All Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools must adopt and enforce policies to comply.
⭐ This includes devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, radio devices, paging devices, or any other electronic device capable of telecommunication or digital communication.
📌 Bowie ISD is currently awaiting further guidance from the Texas Education Agency regarding expectations and enforcement procedures.
Last year, BISD implemented several measures to limit cell phone use during instructional time. We are now reviewing how to align this new law with our existing processes.
As we prepare to implement this law, we respectfully request the support and understanding of our community. School districts are responsible for upholding all laws passed by our elected officials. We also ask for your grace and patience as we navigate this transition, and encourage everyone to look for the benefits this change may bring to student learning.

🚨 Important Vaccination Information for the 2025-2026 School Year 🚨
As we prepare for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, now is the perfect time to review your child’s immunization records.
Texas State Law requires all students to have updated vaccination records or a valid exemption on file before the first day of school.
✔️ If your child is fully vaccinated or has a current exemption (expires every two years) already on file with the school nurse — No action is needed!
❗ If your child needs vaccinations or you have not submitted updated records, we encourage you to take care of this over the summer to avoid any delays in enrollment.

Dear parents and families,
Your child took the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) earlier this spring, and soon you will receive your child’s results. The state assessment is one of many ways to measure student learning. Teachers will use STAAR results along with other information to support your child’s learning in the new school year.
Beginning June 10 for STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) assessments and June 17 for STAAR grades 3–8 assessments, you will be able to access your child’s STAAR results. You will access your child’s results through the Ascender Parent Portal. Your child’s STAAR results will include detailed information for each test question, identifying your child’s strengths and areas where your child may need additional support.
